Counting the days you share
Couples have counted their time together for as long as there have been anniversaries, but counting in days adds something years cannot. A year only changes once, while the day count grows every morning and throws up milestones of its own: 100 days, 1,000 days, 5,000 days. Those dates fall at odd times of year that no one else will have on their calendar, which makes them perfect for a small surprise. The rings above grow outward like a tree, one for each year you have shared, with the newest one filling as this year goes on.
Tap any ring to see the date of that anniversary and its traditional gift. If you add your names, they appear on the share card so you can send it to each other.
How we calculate it
We count the calendar days from your start date to today, including leap days. Years and months are counted as whole calendar years and months, with the remainder in days. Your next anniversary is the next time the calendar reaches your start date’s day and month. Day milestones are the date you complete each round number of days: every 100 up to 1,000, then every 1,000 after that. Traditional gifts follow the commonly published lists.
| Anniversary | Traditional gift | Anniversary | Traditional gift |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1st | Paper | 10th | Tin |
| 2nd | Cotton | 15th | Crystal |
| 3rd | Leather | 20th | China |
| 4th | Fruit and flowers | 25th | Silver |
| 5th | Wood | 30th | Pearl |
| 6th | Sugar | 40th | Ruby |
| 7th | Wool or copper | 50th | Gold |
Worked example. A couple who got together on 14 February 2019 had been together for 2,815 days by 30 October 2026, which is 7 years, 8 months and 16 days. Their 3,000th day falls on 3 May 2027, and their 8th anniversary, traditionally bronze, on 14 February 2027.
Ideas for the in-between milestones
The 1,000-day mark, about two years and nine months in, is a favourite: long enough to feel meaningful, early enough to still be new. Some couples write each other a letter on it, others recreate their first date. Whatever you choose, it is a lovely excuse to celebrate a day that is entirely your own.
Questions people ask
Which date should I use?
Whatever you count from: the day you met, your first date, the day you made it official, or your wedding day. Many couples keep two counts, and you can switch between them by changing the date.
What is the traditional gift for each anniversary?
Common lists start with paper for the first year, cotton for the second and leather for the third, then build to silver at 25, ruby at 40 and gold at 50. The exact lists differ between countries, so treat them as fun suggestions.
When is our 1,000th day together?
Two years, eight months and about 27 days after your start date. The page shows the exact date along with 5,000 and 10,000 days.
Is the date saved?
Only on this device, so the page remembers it next time. It is never sent anywhere.
