The birthday nobody else knows about
Your 10,000th day arrives when you are about 27 years and four months old, a date that falls on no regular calendar and that almost nobody keeps track of. That is exactly what makes it fun. It is a genuine milestone, a five-digit number of days lived, and you can know it years in advance, plan a small celebration and surprise people who had no idea it was coming. The grid above has one square for each of the 10,000 days, filled in up to today.
Each row of the grid holds 100 days, a little over three months, so the full square is your first 27-and-a-bit years. Switch to 20,000 or 30,000 to see the bigger milestones that come later in life; the squares get smaller but the idea is the same.
How we calculate it
We add exactly 10,000 days to your date of birth, following the real calendar, so leap days are taken into account automatically. The result is the date you complete 10,000 days of life. The progress bar compares the days you have lived so far with the milestone you have chosen, and the countdown shows how many days remain, or how long ago you passed it.
| Milestone | Approximate age | Born 12 April 1990 |
|---|---|---|
| 1,000 days | 2 years 9 months | 6 January 1993 |
| 5,000 days | 13 years 8 months | 20 December 2003 |
| 10,000 days | 27 years 4 months | 28 August 2017 |
| 20,000 days | 54 years 9 months | 13 January 2045 |
| 30,000 days | 82 years 1 month | 31 May 2072 |
Worked example. Someone born on 12 April 1990 adds 10,000 days: 27 years takes them to 12 April 2017, and those 27 years contain seven leap days, so 9,862 days have passed. The remaining 138 days land on 28 August 2017, a Monday. That was their 10,000-day birthday.
Ideas for the day
People mark their 10,000th day in all sorts of ways: a dinner with 10 friends, a list of 10 things they have learned, a letter to themselves to open at 20,000 days. Because the date is so personal, even a small gesture feels special. If yours has already passed, the 20,000-day mark in your mid-fifties is the next big one to plan for.
Questions people ask
How old am I on my 10,000th day?
About 27 years and 4 months old. The exact age depends on how many leap days fall in between, so it is 27 years plus 138 or 139 days.
Do you count the day I was born as day one?
We count completed days, so your 10,000-day birthday is the date that falls exactly 10,000 days after your birth date. Some people prefer to count the birth day as day one, which puts the celebration one day earlier.
What about 20,000 and 30,000 days?
20,000 days arrives at about 54 years and 9 months, and 30,000 days at about 82 years and 1 month. The page shows all three dates for you.
Why do people celebrate it?
It is a round number that arrives at an interesting point in life, after the student years but often before many big life decisions. And since almost nobody else knows the date, it makes a fun surprise party.
